Flint's free, comprehensive course and certification to build the foundation for student AI literacy.
Background on the Student AI Literacy Certification Program
The Student AI Literacy Certification Program, launched in Spring 2025, aims to provide a comprehensive course for educators who want to promote AI literacy for their students.
As a K-12 AI platform, Flint's mission is to help students develop the fundamentals of AI literacy so they are prepared to use it safely, ethically, and productively in the classroom and the workforce.
What's Included
This resource is completely free, and both teachers and students have access to the course materials, which includes:
Five Units on AI for Students. From answering "What is AI?" to taking a deep dive into machine learning and AI policies, students will watch unit videos and review the presentation deck to learn fundamental AI principles.
Student AI Literacy Certification Deck. Covers each of the five units and can be used by teachers to present material, or for students to review material before the assessment.
Unit-based Activities. Great for teachers who want homework assignments alongside the course material, or for students who want to apply their new knowledge using interactive activities on Flint.
Final Assessment. At the end of the course, students can take a multiple-choice assessment that tests their knowledge on the course material.
All you need to do is stay on this page to find links to the course materials, watch the videos for each unit, and take the assessment. Students will receive a certificate with their full name and a badge as proof they are Flint Student AI Literacy Certified.

These units also correspond to the units in the presentation deck, so teachers can easily present slides in class and assign material afterwards. We recommend that you open the Student AI Literacy Certification Deck first, review Unit 1 slides, and keep the tab open as you continue to go through the units.
Unit 1: What Is AI?
In this unit, we'll be covering examples of AI, key terms, and why it's a big thing now.
After watching the video and reviewing the slides, you can try the Unit 1 Activity: AI Terminology Review. This activity also includes extra challenge questions if you want to raise the stakes. You can check out the AI Glossary to help you out.
Unit 2: How AI Works
In this unit, we'll be overviewing generative AI and its strengths and weaknesses.
After watching the video and reviewing the slides, you can try the Unit 2 Activity: Is AI Good for This? You'll be presented with various tasks asked to evaluate whether AI would be good at handling them.
Unit 2 Activity: Is AI Good at This?
Unit 3: AI Ethics and Policies
In this unit, we'll review important ethical questions of using AI, AI bias, and privacy.
After watching the video and reviewing the slides, you can try the Unit 3 Activity: AI in Education Debate. You will have to choose your stance on whether you're for or against the use of AI in educational settings, then debate with Flint about the pros and cons.

Take the Student AI Literacy Certification Assessment
Congratulations! If you're here, you most likely have finished the course and want to get certified (or you just want a sneak peek of what's to come, which is also great).
The AI for Students Certification Assessment takes around 20 minutes and consists of multiple-choice questions that test your knowledge on topics covered in Units 1-5 of the course. Questions range in difficulty, so think critically and carefully read each answer choice.

If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback for the course, please email sun@flintk12.com. We'd love to hear what you think!
